Princeton Standards Hearing

General: 
There were 125 to 150 people present, plus or minus. Approximately 27 people spoke. A little over  1/2 identified themselves as teachers. 1/3 to 1/2 thanked the Commissioner and team members for their work. The meeting started promptly at 7:30 PM and was over at 9:20 PM.

Issues ( specific )
- Standards not age appropriate ( 5 speakers) 
- Standards too large, can not meet ( 6 speakers)
- Evolution, Creationism ( 6 speakers)   
- Inquiry subject introduced too early ( 2 speakers ) 
- Attack new standards on the basis of memory being lowest form of learning ( 2 speakers ) 
- Cost problems ( replace texts, teacher training, etc. ) ( 3 speakers ) 
- Teacher licensure problems ( 3 speakers )

Issues (not addressed in draft as presented )
- FDR and his new deal
- Taft Harley Act
- New life science strand needed
- Harold Stassen

Issues (general)
- Request to integrate science standards
- How will testing work?
- Standards should address real problems of today
- Event of 911 and terrorism, terrorist organizations not addressed
- Need understanding of national boundaries 

Comments from a principle:
- Why do we need new standards? His theory = to find a scape goat
- Profile was working just fine. Look at the positives
- We are going backwards
