DFL Leaders Attack Commissioner Yecke Over the Standards
DFL house leaders took off on the offense against Commissioner Yecke, accusing her of all sorts of sins against education, in an effort to undermine the adoption of the social studies standards.
In a highly partisan display of political frustration, they accused her of "injection of politics into the new social studies standards," which "do not reflect the views of mainstream Minnesota." They appear to believe that presenting our nation as inherently oppressive, undermining the Declaration of Independence as a founding document, teaching that Columbus was intent on genocide, and reinstating Discovery Learning into the standards is "mainstream."
