Version Marriage Amendment Action Alert
Governor Pawlenty has announced his agreement to keep
the marriage amendment off the agenda of a special session. Please call
TODAY to tell him NO!
Without either consultation with or agreement from
Republican legislators, the Governor has made an offer to Senator Dean
Johnson for a special session that will NOT include a vote on the
marriage amendment on the Senate floor. (For a description of
how the Defense of Marriage Act -- DOMA -- affects
education, see "DOMA and School Curriculum,
http://edaction.org/2004/031304.htm )
We urge you to call the Governor immediately:
Governor Tim Pawlenty
Phone: (651) 296-3391
Phone: (800) 657-3717
E-mail:
tim.pawlenty@state.mn.us
Message -- Tell the Governor:
1. You are terribly disappointed in him and his
agreement to remove DOMA from the agenda of a special session after the
Senate DFL majority obstructed action on DOMA during the entire general
session.
2. A recent survey indicates that most Minnesotans
would vote to support a constitutional amendment to define marriage as
between one man and one woman. Ask Gov. Pawlenty why he is willing
to take the most powerful issue of the year off the table? Urge him to
support the citizens' right to vote on DOMA in this November's election!
3. Urge Governor Pawlenty to REFUSE to call the legislature back into special session unless the Senate DFL leadership agrees to bring DOMA to a Senate vote.
See our "Alert" of May 25, 2004, for more discussion
of the Senate DFL 2004 legislative obstructing:
Weigh in with the Governor.
Governor Pawlenty, listen to the citizens of
Minnesota!
