Watch for the Maple River Education Coalition Annual Fall Conference
Put us on your calendar. Watch for details.
October 10th and 11th
Minneapolis
"A Nation at Risk"
Speakers to include Michael S. Coffman, Ph.D, author ("Saviors of the
Earth"), nationally recognized speaker, and authority on
environmental and educational issues,.
Congressman Tom Tancredo of Colorado, former member of the House Education
and Workforce Committee (unconfirmed, but likely).
When Senator Steve Kelley refused to include the Declaration of
Independence as a required foundation of Minnesota's new academic
standards, when he stated on the floor of the Senate that the Declaration
of Independence had "no legal standing," he was reflecting the
new education philosophy.
We will tackle the worldview of the education system, the direction that
the massive education restructuring is taking our country -- the shift to
careers training, the undermining of truth and patriotism. How does this
worldview impact our state, our communities, our schools and our nation?
Important Promotional Offer
Maple River Education Coalition is announcing an incredible
promotional offer for the book "Fed Ed: The New Federal Curriculum
and How It's Enforced." With our latest printing, we are making
Fed Ed available to purchase by the case (72 books) for a rock bottom
price of $100 (includes shipping!). It's hard to imagine a better
opportunity to get the message of this book out to those who need to hear
it.
Minnesota has taken only the first (very important) step in
establishing genuine academic standards. Much work remains, including --
creation of social studies standards, creation of science standards,
creation of all of the tests (the tests are the most important, since the
tests drive the curriculum), and teacher licensing requirements. In
addition, the districts will determine much of the curriculum. Parents
have to be equipped to recognize what the federal curriculum is in the
textbooks and in the district expectations.
We've heard from people all over the country that "Fed
Ed" is a book that belongs in the hands of every elected official -
in Congress, in state legislatures and in school boards. It belongs
in the hands of policy makers, columnists, talk show hosts and parents.
It is a book that has the potential to make a difference.
We also want to announce our newest publication, "Inside
the New Federal Curriculum."
This 31 page booklet reviews "We the People: The Citizen
and the Constitution" civics curriculum, the popular textbook
being aggressively promoted as a "traditional" civics text.
"We the People" is published by the Center for Civic
Education and it is based upon the National Standards for Civics and
Government. The essay quotes directly from this civics text which is
being used in public, private and home schools.
Also included is an insightful question and answer dialogue
which explains the basics about how this system is being put into place
and how it enforced.
Our mission at the Maple River Education Coalition is to
equip people with knowledge. "Fed Ed" and "Inside Fed
Ed" are powerful for doing just that. Take advantage of this
wonderful opportunity to equip yourself and others with important
information.
"Inside the New Federal Curriculum" is also available to order
