Legislature PROHIBITS Involuntary Career Tracking

The K-12 Conference Committee wrapped up in the early hours of Friday morning, passing a motion that prohibits involuntary career tracking! In debate on the Senate floor later in the day, Senator Sandy Pappas drew attention to that prohibition as an unfortunate agreement the Senate made with the House, but one they were forced into. The passage of this prohibition is a major victory which we will cover in more detail.

The entire workforce restructuring bill was being passed, a bill that will centralize all jobs placement, certification, training and employment services of all kinds in Minnesota under one state agency. This agency, in turn, operates under federal directives and accountability, essentially establishing a federal centralized workforce system. It is a breathtaking power grab of central government over private industry and a free market economy, mandated by the threat of losing all federal funding for workforce and jobs programs.

The final big question before the committee was a prohibition against mandatory career tracking. [NOTE: Remarkably, none of this debate hit the radar screen of any media operations, though they were present during the entire debate, and they were aware that career tracking was the only issue holding up final passage of this major government reorganization bill. The controlled media will not address an issue that does not advance their own agenda.]

See excerpts from the debate last Monday in the Jobs and Economic Development conference committee regarding a very similar motion. It failed in the Jobs Committee, but that debate set the stage for later passage in the K-12 Finance Committee.

Those voting 'yes' deserve our thanks. We hope you will contact them for the excellent work they did in elevating this issue to the priority it deserves.
