EdAction March 6, 2001 DCFL official says federal SCANS already in ProfileIn a Senate hearing on February 26th, Department of Children, Families and Learning Assistant Commissioner Jesse Montano admitted that an 11th Profile learning area, "Vocational Education" (that the legislature added last year), was unnecessary because the content standards of such a learning area would be the "federal SCANS work skills" (School-to- Work). She went on to say that the federal SCANS work skills are already included in the other ten learning areas of the Profile of Learning. The DCFL staff, however, has previously and consistently denied any connection between School-to-Work and the Profile of Learning. Chancellor Morrie Anderson of MnSCU, who is heading up Governor Ventura' promotion of the Governor's Workforce Development Plan stated in a Senate hearing last Friday:
The School-to-Work system is a federal education system that transforms all education into vocational career training and tracking, from pre-K through college. |
