Support HF 3625!
HOUSE FILE 3625:
The
state's full-text version, summary, and status
Authored by Rep. Mark Olson in the House and Sen. Gen.
Olson in the Senate, HF 3625 is a number you should memorize and support.
This bill would significantly change the scope and purpose of the
School-to-Work system:
- It would require that students must first
pass their basic skills tests in reading, math and writing before
being involved in any aspect of STW.
- It would provide for 9-12 grade students to be able
to choose an academic high school track and/or a vocational
track. STW curriculum would be allowed only after 8th grade, and
then only as an option.
- It would require parental permission to
participate in STW and requires parents to be notified of the labor
laws surrounding it.
- It would require parental permission for students to
use their own vehicles or to transport other students.
- It would prevent agencies of the state or otherwise
from entering into federal contracts unless approved by the State
Legislature.
- Most importantly, all the "goals" and
"objectives" of the STW System would be repealed! Repealing
the goals and objectives would not repeal the STW system, but it would
remove its ideological foundation from being embedded into statute.
