EdAction March 15, 2000 House & Senate Vote on Profile Tomorrow, March 16 The Profile of Learning bills will be brought up for a vote on the floor of both the full Minnesota Senate and the full House of Representatives tomorrow, March 16th. The Senate convenes at 9:00 a.m. and is in session until noon. The House convenes at 1:00 p.m. ***NOTE TIME CHANGE*** We are hopeful the Northstar Standard will be addressed in both the House and the Senate. To a large degree, that depends upon you. We hope every single one of you will call your state rep. and your state senator. Everything you need to find and contact your legislators is available right here. Tell your representative and senator this is their opportunity to demonstrate their commitment to parents and teachers, to get our education system back on track, to listen to the voters, to vote against the Profile, and to vote to support the Northstar Standard. Get everyone you know to call, too. You can call your legislators' offices in the evening. You can call in the morning. If they are not there, please leave an urgent message. If you are able to break free from your normal activities, bring a neighbor with you and come down to the Capitol. Bring a sign, your own homemade sign, that supports the Northstar Standard and/or that opposes the Profile of Learning. Your signs cannot go into the House or Senate chambers or into the visitors gallery. But you may stand outside the doors of the chambers to register your presence and your point of view. They need to know you are there, and that you care that much! Tomorrow is a very important day. Many months of work by many thousands of Minnesota citizens have worked up to this moment. Now we need to make our presence felt as never before. Thank you for staying the course! |
